Dr. Ramos has been practicing emergency medicine at SVH since 1998 and is the last founding member of SVEMG. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1991.
He completed a categorical internship in Surgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX, 1992 and then a 2-year utilization tour at Fort Ord, CA. During that time he held posts including Officer in Charge of the Aviation Medical Clinic, Officer in Charge of the General Outpatient Clinic, and Assistant Chief of the Emergency Department. His residency in Emergency Medicine was completed at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA from 1994 to 1997. He finished another 2-year utilization tour at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, KY, as a staff emergency physician.
Dr. Ramos has served in numerous leadership positions at SVH, including Chief of Staff (2017-2019), Vice Chief of Staff and President of the SVH Foundation. He was also the Chair of the Emergency Department and CEO of SVEMG from 2011-2015. He has also been involved in roles such as Vice Chair, Assistant Director of Quality Assurance and Risk Management for 48-hour return patients, and a Medical Executive Committee Member. His diverse contributions extend to Medical Directorship for the Monterey County Sexual Assault Response Team (2000-2018), Santa Cruz County SART (2013-2017) and Medical Director for Salinas City Fire EMS (2019-Present). Dr. Ramos was also Chair of the Credentialing Committee for Monterey Bay Independent Physicians’ Association and is a current member of the Community Advocacy Committee. He also serves as Faculty for The South Bay Consortium/MPC Paramedic Program and is the current Honorary Medical Director of the California Rodeo.
Beyond medicine, he enjoys skiing, riding his motorcycles and horses, traveling, and reading, among other pursuits.
