University of Southern California

Residency

Dr. Fajardo has been practicing emergency medicine at SVH since 2001.  He earned his degree in Biochemistry from the University of the Pacific in 1987 and graduated from medical school at the University of Southern California in 1991. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center, Ft Lewis, WA. His first posting was at Ft Irwin in the Mojave Desert as a staff internist. He also took on the job of Regimental Surgeon for the 11th ACR/OPFOR. It was during this tour that the US Army Surgeon General awarded him the Physician Recognition Award for his contributions to Army medicine. Two years in the desert helped clarify his goals and he changed specialties. He went back to Madigan Army Medical Center and successfully completed his Emergency Medicine residency in 1999. Having missed the dual role as a physician and Army officer/leader, Dr. Fajardo went back to the Army cavalry after residency and became the Regimental Surgeon for the 3rd ACR and worked shifts at Evans Army Medical Center, Fort Carson, CO. He then went on to finish his career in the Army as the Chief of the Emergency Department at EAMC.

Since joining SVH, he has served in various leadership positions such as Vice Director of SVEMG, Director of Quality Assurance and now the Chief Financial Officer. Additionally, he has contributed to committees like Medical Staff Excellence, Pharmacy and Therapeutics and chair of the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee. Dr. Fajardo is dedicated to education and regularly lectures at the annual SVEMG Summer Health Institute.

Outside of work, Dr. Fajardo finds joy in his family life, cherishing time with his wife and watching their two young children grow. Their energy and happiness bring him fulfillment, especially as his 22-year-old son pursues his own path as an armor officer in the US Army.
